Introducing Chimango Munthali, a man with a passion for both public health and football. Here is his inspiring story of how he turned a simple idea into a life-changing initiative for kids in Malawi.
Chimango's journey started when he stumbled upon a group of kids playing football using makeshift balls made of paper. After witnessing their excitement and joy from winning a game, Chimango was inspired to create the Donate a Ball Initiative, a project that aimed to provide proper footballs to kids across Malawi. Through his GoFundMe campaign and outreach efforts, Chimango was able to collect over 700 balls and distribute them throughout the country.
However, Chimango's passion for football and his desire to make a greater impact led him to create the Mpira Mmudzi Mwathu Soccer Schools. This initiative aims to use football as a tool for development, behavior change, and social skill development. The soccer schools are not just for kids who can afford to pay, but also for those who cannot. Chimango and his team provide opportunities for kids to develop their skills while also supporting those who may not have the financial means to participate.
Through this initiative, Chimango has been able to employ 25 coaches, who are former football players and provide them with a means of income. Additionally, his efforts have helped nurture the talents of young football players who have gone on to make it to the national team.
Despite facing financial constraints, Chimango continues to inspire greatness in those around him by demonstrating that it takes the first step to make a difference. His story shows that with passion, creativity, and hard work, anyone can create change and inspire greatness in others.
